For the last 22 years, The Amalinda Collection have strived for excellence, innovative progress and the ultimate African experience. At this time, they successfully showcase three unique safari lodges, a well-equipped campsite and “Driving you Wild” a transfer service. The Amalinda Collection are firmly recognised in the tourism industry of Zimbabwe and were recently recognised and awarded by the leaders in the Green Tourism Sector.

The Amalinda Collection are proud to announce a new and exciting project. The Hwange Safari Company is an experience laced with nostalgia, class and creativity. Vintage Land Rovers lovingly restored, revamped and equipped for the safari of a lifetime. A Bucket List definite for Land Rover Enthusiasts. They are the first introduction to Guests, a taste of a bygone era and a golden age of refinement and grace. Passengers will venture into the bush aboard these “Grand Old Ladies”, strategically stopping for tea, delicious gin and tonics and later, under a sprawling tree – a sumptuous lunch served with style and elegance.

The Hwange Safari Company experience culminates in Guests arriving at the end of the day to a professionally set up tented camp. Hot showers, followed by a hearty evening meal prepared by our Chef and a good bottle of carefully selected wine.

The day’s adventures are revisited whilst sitting around the dying embers of the campfire. Silence soon follows as guests’ saunter across to their tents and sleep is imminent. Dawn creeps in and refreshed and rejuvenated, there is nothing better than an African sunrise to set the tone for a new day. The Hwange Safari Company offers tailor made experiences to suit any kind of group. Meet the Owners

Raymond “Ray”Ndlovhu

One can safely say that Hwange is in Raymonds DNA. Raymond is a second generation Hwange professional. He was born in the Hwange National Park and his father worked for National Parks based in Hwange. Like Raymond, his father was passionate about the bush and he imparted this valuable knowledge and passion to Ray at a very early age. He attended a local school in the Dete Community Village and on completion of his schooling in 1996, Ray began his guiding career working as an apprentice under Touch the Wild Safaris. Raymond joined the Amalinda Collection in 2015 and with twenty years of experience under his belt, is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable Professional Guides in Hwange. Every journey with Raymond is a new discovery and he is passionate about his work. Raymond is now the Chief Guide and co-director of The Hwange Safari Company. Ray is happily married and his home is still and always will be Hwange.

Sharon Stead

Sharon is 4th generation Zimbabwean born and was raised on her parents Game Farm north of Bulawayo. Her family created Camp Amalinda 26 years ago and the Company has grown from strength to strength since then – three luxury safari lodges, Driving you Wild - a touring and transfer company, Tuskers Camp Site situated at Ivory Lodge and now the latest addition – The Hwange Safari Company. Sharon’s originality, enthusiasm and love of adventure saw a unique opportunity combining vintage Land Rovers, old fashioned fun and the bush she is so passionate about. The Hwange Safari Company promises to be safari like no other – an exciting addition to the highly acclaimed Amalinda Collection. Her work ethic and commitment to the community have earned her numerous awards, accolades and recognition. Sharon has been married to Phil for 22 years and they have two children Savannah and Mitchell and the family reside in Bulawayo.

Phil Stead

Phil was born in Tanzania into a family of Hoteliers so he grew up visiting Kenya’s safari lodges. After being educated in Guernsey, his “Hotel and Catering” degree was taken in Scotland before returning to Africa to continue in this trade. Phil’s vast knowledge of hospitality, tourism and fine cuisine comes from his many years’ experience with major Hotel chains in Southern Africa. His eye for detail and service of the hospitality trade has taken The Amalinda Collection to a whole new level. His ability to think outside the box, quiet demeanour and expertise concretes and compliments the powerhouse partnership that he shares with Sharon, his wife of 22 years. Phil, together with Khulu, his father -in-law, has lovingly restored the vintage Land Rovers that are the hallmark of the Hwange Safari Company, An eye for detail, instensive research and a vision of glorious vintage safaris will ensure the Hwange Safari Company’s every success.
